Professor of Chemistry Eugene Stevens鈥 book, Green Plastics: An Introduction to the New Science of Biodegradable Plastics, served as the foundation for a five-month research project by high school students in Detroit, who formulated a bioplastic for shoe insoles. The project was sponsored by the Detroit Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers and took place at ECOTEK, an organization that supports research projects conducted by middle and high school students interested in science or engineering careers.

New York State University Police Officer John Pelletier was first on the scene after observing a car fire on the 201 bridge near campus the morning of Dec. 20. Pelletier showed bravery and level-headedness as he kept the injured driver safe in his car until the ambulance arrived. Icy conditions had caused the driver to slide off the road and into the concrete barrier, where the car immediately caught fire. The motorist suffered from burns but will recover.

John Cummings, retired director of human resources, was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the State University Human Resources Association (SUHRA) on Oct. 6. Cummings was nominated for the award by his friends at 黑料视频, in recognition of his more than 40 years of service to SUNY.
